The Residence Permit by Investment (ARI) scheme, more commonly known as the Golden Visa program, has been in effect since 2012 with the primary objective of attracting international capital to Portugal. However, due to the housing challenges currently faced by the Portuguese population, the Mais Habitação (More Housing) program was announced in October 2023. Among other measures, it aims to amend the rules regarding residence permits for investment activities.
