U.S. citizens are leading the surge in demand for Portugal’s Golden Visa program following the U.S. elections that returned Donald Trump to the presidency, according to reporting by Expresso this Friday. Interest has risen sharply, with one of the main beneficiaries being the 3CC Portugal Golden Income Fund.
In the first half of the year alone, one fund, the 3CC Portugal Golden Income Fund, which includes exposure to cryptocurrencies, saw investment volumes increase fourteenfold.
The 3CC Portugal Golden Income Fund allocates up to 15% to Bitcoin, between 10% and 30% to equities, and at least 65% to corporate bonds issued by companies headquartered in Portugal. This latter component is what enables investors to qualify for the Golden Visa.
The program grants non-Schengen nationals the right to reside in Portugal and, ultimately, apply for citizenship through qualifying investments of at least €500,000.
According to a lawyer interviewed by Expresso, Portugal now represents a “Plan B” for these investors, offering not only financial diversification but also “the possibility of securing an alternative residence.”
